On my summer trip to Italy, I wandered into the Red Valentino Store in Taormina, Sicily. Once I went through the summer sale items, made my way to the rear of the store to check out what was upcoming for the Fall 2017 season. Along with a lot of black and red pieces, there was a surprising amount houndstooth jackets and bottoms. Carolina Herrera has also followed suit with a plethora of black, white, yellow and red pieces for Fall that pair excellently with her houndstooth separates.
The wonderful thing about houndstooth this Fall is that it is being captured in a variety of fabrics, particularly silks, instead of its traditional tweed form. Beautiful houndstooth silk blouses and skirts have sweep the runaway and, I predict, will only gain popularity this Fall/Winter.
Most houndstooth checks I’ve seen for Fall 2017 have been large to medium-sized, with the tighter check on more formal wool suits and dresses. Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney do a great job of using the smaller houndstooth check on sleek silhouettes, creating a very contemporary look.
