My Prada belt broke on my last trip to Miami so it was off to the Prada store at Tysons Galleria (Virginia) to get it fixed. As soon as I entered there was a definite great shopping vibe. And here I thought malls were dying. Certainly not this one. Since Tysons Galleria is the more upscale one of the two Tysons Corner malls, there were a decent amount of people glammed up. The rest were sporting their athleisure along with their Louis Vuitton or Gucci handbags, along with carrying another gigantic shopping bag (probably with another flashy Gucci or LV bag).

My Prada peeps told me that it is unlikely that my belt would be able to be fixed but they would send it in to their repair shop anyways. With those words, I was off in search of a replacement black hip belt casual enough to wear with jeans. To my surprise, this was a rather difficult proposition. Of all the shops, Gucci and Ferragamo had the most women’s belts. They were pretty garish though. Since I didn’t want to give either of these brands free ad space near my lower abs, I moved on. I then went into Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Neiman’s, Celine, and Bally. Many of these store did not have ladies’ belts, and if they did, they were all cut straight, meaning they could only be worn on the waist. Most were also too formal to wear with jeans as well.
I started going into panic mood and missed my perfectly casual Prada belt even more. I looked online, but I could not find a replacement. And then thoughts keep swirling in my head. Are women not buying designer (hip) belts anymore? Have we stopped wearing belts with jeans? As the ’80s and ’90s are coming back why wouldn’t designers have hip belts in stock to wear with denim?
Well, luckily this story does have a happy ending. Even though I did not find my belt at Tysons, I did manage to find a beautiful Ralph Lauren equestrian-inspired on Ebay. Saved by Ebay again!
